1. Word form là gì?

"Word form" là những hình thái từ khác nhau của một từ tồn tại trong một ngữ cảnh nhất định, đó có thể là: danh từ, động từ hoặc tính từ khi các tiền tố và hậu tố được thêm vào.

Ví dụ: “Happy” có thể có các word form như "happiness" (danh từ), "happily" (trạng từ). Những word form sẽ diễn tả những ý nghĩa khác nhau, không thay thế được cho nhau.

2. Cấu tạo của word form

2.1. Cấu tạo danh từ

Danh từ có thể xuất hiện ở nhiều vị trí khác nhau trong câu: chủ ngữ, tân ngữ, đứng sau các giới từ (in, of, about, at, …), đứng sau các từ sở hữu (my, your, his, her,...), đứng sau các mạo từ.

Danh từ có thể được tạo ra bằng việc thêm các tiền tố, hậu tố khác nhau:

Hậu tố:
er/or: teacher, actor
ness: happiness, kindness
ment: development, improvement.
ion/tion/sion: conversation, celebration, decision.
ism: capitalism, feminism.
ity/ty: university, responsibility.
ist: dentist, artist, biologist.
hood: childhood, brotherhood, motherhood.
ship: friendship, leadership, citizenship.
Tiền tố:
Un: unhappiness, uncertainty, unbelief.
Dis: disconnection, disagreement, disruption.
Re: repetition, recovery, return.
Pre: preparation, preview, preference
Mis: misunderstanding, misfortune
Over: overload, overachievement, overlord.

2.2. Cấu tạo tính từ

Tính từ được đặt ở những vị trí sau: trước danh từ, sau các V có tính liên kết (seem, like, taste, tobe,..), sau make/keep, trong các câu mang cấu trúc so sánh, …

Một số tiền tố, hậu tố để cấu tạo thành một tính từ mới:

Tiền tố:
Un: unhappy, unsuccessful.
Dis: dishonest, disrespectful.
In/Im: inactive, immature.
Non: nonviolent
Hậu tố:
ful: beautiful, helpful
less: fearless, powerless
able/-ible: comfortable, accessible
ous/-ious: dangerous, curious
y: happy, sleepy

2.3. Cấu tạo trạng từ

Trạng từ có nhiều vị trí khác nhau trong câu như: đứng trước động từ, sau động từ tobe, đứng giữa động từ và đối tượng được nhắc đến, đứng cuối câu.

Khi muốn tạo thành 1 trạng từ mới, ta sử dụng các hậu tố sau:

ly: Quickly, happily
ward(s): Forward, backward(s)
wise: Likewise , clockwise

Lưu ý: một số trường hợp ngoại lệ:

good(adj) -> well(adv)
early(adj) -> early(adv)

2.4. Cấu tạo động từ

Động từ thường đứng sau chủ ngữ, trước trạng từ, trước tân ngữ.

Dưới đây là một số tiền tố và hậu tố phổ biến để tạo ra động từ trong tiếng Anh:

Tiền tố:
Re: Rebuild, rewrite
Un: Unpack , undo
Dis: Disappear , disconnect
Hậu tố:
ate: Collaborate , educate
en: Worsen, lengthen
ize/-ise: Organize , prioritize
