Đảo ngữ là cấu trúc ngữ pháp xuất hiện nhiều trong các kỳ thi academic như IELTS, TOEIC hay TOEFL và cả trong giao tiếp hàng ngày. Cấu trúc của đảo ngữ khá dài và khó nhớ hết chính là nguyên nhân nhiều thí sinh "ngại" học sâu mảng kiến thức này.

Hiện tượng đảo ngữ là hiện tượng đảo ngược vị trí động từ hoặc trợ động từ lên trước chủ ngữ nhằm mục đích nhấn mạnh.
Ví dụ:
She never does the shopping. (câu thường)
=> Never does she do the shopping (câu đảo ngữ – người viết/nói muốn nhấn mạnh đến việc không bao giờ của cô ấy)
(Cô ấy không bao giờ đi mua đồ)
Các bạn biết đó, thông thường thì để nói đúng chúng ta chỉ cần học ngữ pháp căn bản thôi, nhưng đối với kỳ thi IELTS thì điều đó là chưa đủ. Cấu trúc đảo ngữ ít được những bạn học IELTS thông thường chú tâm đến, việc sử dụng chúng trong bài thi lại càng hiếm hơn.
