IELTS Vocabulary cho chủ đề Home và Accommodation (Phần 4)

IELTS luôn là phần thi đòi hỏi các bạn phải chuẩn bị cho mình kiến thức về các ngữ pháp, vốn từ vựng phong phú và cách diễn đạt logic hợp lý, đặc biệt là trong phần thi IELTS Speaking. Sau đây là gợi ý cho phần từ vựng chủ đề Home & Accommodation.

I. Phần mở đầu

Việc chuẩn bị vốn từ vựng phong phú luôn là ưu tiên cho phần thi IELTS Speaking. Dưới đây sẽ là một số gợi ý tiếp theo về các từ vựng hay cụm từ chủ đề Home & Accommodation cho các bạn để có thể chuẩn bị tốt nhất cho mình cho kỳ thi IELTS.

II. Các từ vựng chủ đề Home & Accommodation (tiếp)

g) Các từ vựng về bên ngoài ngôi nhà

1. garden – khu vườn

2. lawn –một vùng cỏ bị cắt ngắn, đặc biệt là trong vườn của ai đó

Ví dụ: Our garden is mostly lawn with some flower borders and a vegetable patch.

3. backyard – khoảng sân sau nhà

Ví dụ: The kids are out playing in the backyard.

4. terrace / patio –khu vực lát đá gần nhà để thư giãn, ăn uống, vv

Ví dụ: In the summer we enjoy relaxing on the patio and often set up the barbeque there.

5. hedge – một hàng cây bụi hoặc cây nhỏ mọc sát nhau quanh vườn hoặc cánh đồng

Ví dụ: The property had a high hedge which gave it good privacy from the neighbours.

6. fence – hàng rào

Ví dụ: We had to put up a new fence at the side of the house as the old one blew down in a gale.

7. shed – tòa nhà gỗ nhỏ trong vườn thường được sử dụng để lưu trữ dụng cụ làm vườn

Ví dụ: I don’t like going into the shed to get tools out as there are large spiders in there.

8. garage – ga ra ô tô

Ví dụ: Most people in the UK use their garage for storage and don’t have room for the car.

h) Cải tiến cho ngôi nhà

1. to convert – thay đổi

Ví dụ: Our plan is to convert the garage into a study.

2. loft conversion – biến gác xép / gác mái thành nơi ở

Ví dụ: Doing a loft conversion will mean that each of the children will be able to have a bedroom of their own.

3. to add an extension –xây thêm phòng, mở rộng

Ví dụ: Many people add an extension as their family grows rather than buying a larger house.

4. to redecorate – trang trí lại

Ví dụ: The colour scheme in their new house was dull and old-fashioned so they redecorated before they moved in.

5. to do up a property – để sửa chữa và cập nhật một tài sản cũ

Ví dụ: Jake couldn’t afford the smart new houses he looked at so he decided to buy an old property and do it up.

6. to renovate – cải tạo

Ví dụ: The property has been empty for several years but we're planning to renovate it and turn it back into a nice home.

7. to paper the walls – dán tường

Ví dụ: My friend is a decorator and is going to help me paper the walls in my new flat.

8. to tile the bathroom – phủ một bức tường bằng gạch để làm cho nó chống nước

Ví dụ: We’ve nearly finished the new extension and just need to tile the bathroom.

9. a lick of paint – một lớp sơn

Ví dụ: There was very little that needed doing before we move into the house but we gave the walls a lick of paint to brighten them up.

1. dream home – căn nhà trong mơ

Ví dụ: My dream home would be a cottage by the sea.

2. modern –hiện đại

Ví dụ: Most modern houses are very similar to look at and have small rooms and not much storage space.

3. house-hunting – tìm kiếm căn hộ

Ví dụ: We’ve been house-hunting for three months but can’t find anything that really suits us.

4. house-warming party – một bữa tiệc mừng khi chuyển vào một ngôi nhà mới

Ví dụ: I’m going to a colleague’s house-warming party on Saturday and can’t wait to look around her new home.

5. to have a place of your own – để có một ngôi nhà riêng của bạn

Ví dụ: I love living at home with my family but I’m 24 now and have a good job so I feel it’s time to find a place of my own.

6. to move in – chuyển đến

Ví dụ: Jenny was impressed with the recently renovated hall of residence and couldn’t wait to move in.

7. to move out – chuyển ra

Ví dụ: Linn broke up with her boyfriend and moved out of their flat.

8. downsize – giảm kích thước của một ngôi nhà, chỗ ở

Ví dụ: Many parents downsize when their children have left home as they don’t need such a large house.

9. to feel homesick – nhớ nhà

Ví dụ: For the first few months at university, Dalia felt very homesick but she began to feel better once she started to make new friends.

10. there’s no place like home – thể hiện rằng không nơi đâu bằng nhà của bạn

Ví dụ: I do enjoy travelling the world and visiting amazing places but there’s no place like home.

11. next door – cạnh nhà của bạn

Ví dụ:A new family has just moved into the house next door.

12. a view – khung cảnh

Ví dụ: The thing I remember most about my grandmother’s house was the lovely view of the mountains.
